army-rehersalnew.jpgAn army regiment based in Hounslow today took up the honour of guarding the Queen.

The 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers - based in Beavers Lane, Hounslow West - faced 15,000 spectators at 11.30am this morning as they performed their first public duties parade in their new role.

A spokesman said: "For all the men and officers it will be an enormous priviledge and honour to be on parade in the nation's capital city and the home of the Regimental Headquarters, the Tower of London.

"The forecourt of Buckingham Palace will be a far cry from the front line in Afghanistan and Iraq where the majority of those taking part served this time last year."

The battalion moved to Hounslow from Cyrus in March. This is the first time the Fusiliers have guarded the Queen since the 1st Battalion performed public dutues in 1975.

We'd like to hear from you.
