Jail birds ruffle feathers at Hounslow care home

owls.jpgResidents at the Cloister Care Home in Bath Road were visited Gizmo, a nine-week-old Tawny Owl, and Mustard, an adult Barn Owl on Friday.

The birds flew in from Latchmere House prison's Raptor Project, which teaches inmates to take responsibility for the birds before they are released.

Project leader Heather Fisher said: "Our birds are always very popular. We've got eight birds altogether and our prisoners take care of their feeding and cleaning."

The visitors were certainly popular among residents, especially Irene Wild who turned 100 earlier this year.
Alexandra Henderson, activities coordinator at Cloisters Care Home, said: "The residents really enjoyed seeing these beautiful birds up close, as many have only seen then from a distance or in a zoo."

We'd like to hear from you.
