Baby has the power

Parents and carers of children with disabilities will soon be able to call a new helpline for information and advice.

Parents in Touch (PiT) have stepped in to fill the gap left by the sudden closure of the Kids Hounslow Information and Support Project (HISP) at the end of September.

"This is was the kind of jolt we needed to revive PiT," said long-standing PiT committee member and co-Chair, Judith Sheppard. "We had allowed PiT to lapse as Kids were there doing a really great job."

Susan Alexander has been fighting for a change to the law since her son, Azelle Rodney, was shot seven times at point blank range in Edgware.

StoryStar - Top 10 tips

StoryStar is a writing competition for young people in west London aged 4 - 18. All entries are published on www.hounslowchronicle.co.uk and the winners will receive books for themselves and their school from Random House Children's Books and see their stories printed in the paper.

We will have our first coffee morning in the Community Room at Holy Trinity Church, on the corner of Montague Road and Hounslow High Street between 10am and 12 noon on Tuesday, 4 November.

Entrance to the auction is via the car park entrance to the pub, but you can also go through the pub if you wish.

Items are sold as seen. Buyers are expected to satisfy themselves as to the condition of any lots prior to purchase. Cash or cheques only accepted only with bankers card. Admission on door £1 which includes a catalogue. All funds raised by this auction will help the animals in our care.

Global concert thrills shoppers

Concert 181008.jpgShoppers in Hounslow High Street were treated to a concert featuring songs and dances from across the globe on Saturday.

Crowds gathered to watch as about 20 acts representing countries from Spain to China took to the stage outside the Vodafone shop between noon and 4pm.

Youngsters are needed to help plant a sea of daffodils in Hounslow West next Wednesday, October 29.

Children should turn up at Chester Road Recreation Ground with a trowel or spade between 10am and midday to help fellow volunteers plant 1,000 native wild bulbs.

The event is organised by environmental charity Groundwork Thames Valley and children from Beavers School are encouraged to join in during their half-term holiday.

Another daffodil planting session will take place on Saturday, November 8 from 10am.

Imam-Sueimani-and-3-members.jpgHounslow Friends of Faith welcomed the Imam of Hounslow Jamia Mosque and Islamic Centre, Sheik Nisar Ahmad Hussain Suleimani, to address their annual meeting this week, during which he stressed the need to maintain strong family values and to live a balanced life.

In a talk entitled: "Islam in Britain: its contribution to the UK and to Hounslow", the Imam said that Islam can encourage people to be spiritual. People of faith need to study scriptures for guidelines on how to live.

A self-styled spiritual guru from Southall, who stole £46,000 in benefits from the London Borough of Hounslow, has had £110,000 of assets confiscated at Isleworth Crown Court.

Parmjit Singh, aged 42, of Wentworth Road, Southall, was found guilty of committing housing benefit fraud against Hounslow in March 2008, and was sentenced to two years in prison. Since then, the council have been using powers in the Criminal Justice Act and Proceeds of Crime Act to identify and confiscate assets Singh gained through the his crimes.
