Tea the key for 102-year-old
Ballroom dancing and plenty of tea are the keys to a long life, if this 102-year-old is anything to go by.
Annie Philpot, of John Collin House in Sutton Lane, Hounslow, celebrated the milestone last Monday surrounded by friends and family.
She enjoyed a sing-along with relatives from across the world before one of her great granddaughters entertained guests by showing off her salsa skills.
Annie's senior carer Carol Addis said Annie, who was still dancing until last year, had a whale of a time.
"Annie's still very fit and always keeps us on our toes, which is probably down to an active life and lots of tea," she added.
"We call her Annie Tea Pot because she gets through about 12 cups a day."
Born in Barry, South Wales, Annie left home in 1919, aged 13, to work as a chambermaid.
She came to London with her husband Fred in 1930 and they eventually settled in Hanwell, where they had four children.
She began working during the Second World War, making springs for Army tanks, later becoming a sales assistant in the haberdashery section of John Saunders department store in Ealing.
Annie continued working there until her 90s, when she was also forced to give up her first love of ballroom dancing.
She was still living in her own home until 2004, when she moved into her current address.
