Expansion plans for Chatsworth and Hounslow Town primary schools
Two primary schools in Hounslow are set to take on extra classes of 30 pupils as education chiefs attempt to cope with an explosion in birth rates.
Chatsworth Infant & Nursery and Chatsworth Junior, which are due to be merged, and Hounslow Town Primary, are among 10 schools across the borough which could accept more pupils as part of proposals to create up to 285 new places.
Town hall bosses want to create the new reception places by September next year to accommodate the anticipated demand, with the number of births in the borough having soared by 32 per cent between 2000 and 2007.
Cllr Paul Lynch, lead member for education, said: "We can't just cram more children into existing classrooms and as demand will be spread across the borough, building new schools isn't really feasible.
"Expanding the number of classes at existing schools, where possible, is better value for money than providing the same number on a new site.
"Larger primary schools are also more flexible to demand should the current increase in birth rate reverse in the future."
