Labour councillor Virk suspended from party
A Labour councillor has been suspended from the party for flouting planning regulations.
Jiwan Virk, who represents the Bedfont ward, was suspended by the group on Tuesday night, pending the results of a disciplinary hearing on June 10.
Cllr Virk has already been suspended for four months, last September, after illegally converting a family house in Basildene Road, Hounslow.
He was last week fined £1,000 at Feltham Magistrates' Court after ignoring an enforcement order to restore the property to its original condition. He has now made the changes.
Cllr Surjit Dhaliwal, the Labour group's chief whip, said: "Having read last Friday's papers, and received complaints from colleagues, I have instigated the Labour group disciplinary process according to our rules.
"Cllr Virk's behaviour is not acceptable, and is not what is expected from a Labour councillor."
