Macmillan urges people in Hounslow to help raise £9.6m - by putting the kettle on
CANCER charity Macmillan has launched a major drive to get people across Hounslow to help raise £9.6 million - by putting the kettle on.
Macmillan Cancer Support wants thousands of people across the borough to take part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning on September 25.
In 2008 there were over 80 Macmillan coffee mornings held across Hounslow raising over more than £20,000.
But this year the charity needs the people of Hounslow to raise even more money to help fund its vital cancer services, from specialist nurses and doctors, to grants and advice for people with cancer who have financial problems.
Fundraising manager for North West London, Katie Francis, said: "The help we provide people with cancer is absolutely essential and we want to be able to give support to everyone who needs it.
"That's why we need to raise more from this year's World's Biggest Coffee Morning than ever before.
"It's a really fun event that is so easy to take part in, especially as you can tailor it to suit yourself, in fact it's a piece of cake to help Macmillan!"
Last year two million people around the UK took part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning, raising a massive £7.5 million.
This year the charity hopes to raise £9.6 million from the event, on September 25, to fund its vital cancer services.
Katie added: "There's no right or wrong way to take part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning.
"You can have a traditional coffee morning at home or work, organise a glamorous coffee-themed evening, or even serve up smoothies or herbal tea instead of coffee.
"So why not join the World's Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday, September 25 and help Macmillan reach more people affected by cancer.
"And don't worry if you can't hold your event on the official coffee morning day, just organise it at a time that suits you.
"The important thing is that all the money you raise will help improve the lives of people affected by cancer."
