Woman dies in blaze at Hounslow home

A WOMAN died after being pulled from the first floor of her home during a blaze near Hounslow Heath.

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was rescued from the terraced house in Beaulieu Close, Hounslow, in the early hours of New Year's Eve, but died three days later in hospital.

Neighbours told this week how they saw medics desperately trying to resuscitate her as fire fighters attempted to douse the flames.

Ricardo Spencer, a 25-year-old father-of-two, said he was at home that morning when he heard two loud bangs from next door at about 6.30am.

"I smelt smoke coming from upstairs and when I went outside I saw two people trying to help the woman who was inside the house," he added. "My friend tried to help her but there was too much smoke and it was impossible to get in. I saw the woman on the floor and they were trying to resuscitate her for about 15 minutes before she was taken away in the ambulance."

He added that, although he didn't know her, he believed she was living with a man and a child.

Matthew Sephton, crew manager at Feltham Fire Station, said the woman was found unconscious in her bedroom after the fire broke out in the lounge.

"Two fire fighters did CPR on the woman and resuscitated her but unfortunately she died from her injuries in hospital three days later. The cause of the fire is under investigation," he added.

A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said about 60 per cent of the ground floor of the terraced house had been damaged.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said paramedics had treated two patients at the scene, both of whom were taken to West Middlesex Hospital. She did not have any information about the second patient or their condition. It is understood the woman was transferred from the West Mid before she died.
